Agness Henderson

Executive Director


Agness Henderson grew up in Harrisonburg, VA and graduated from Bridgewater College with a B.A. in Business Administration. She joined the Roanoke Valley Speech & Hearing Center in 2009, having spent her entire career in banking. She is a member of the Cosmopolitan Club and the National Association of Speech & Hearing Centers. She and her husband, Mike, make their home here in Roanoke and are the proud parents of 4 grown children and three granddaughters and one grandson.

Michelle Ickes, Ph.D.

CCC-A, Audiologist and Director of Audiology


Michelle has been with the Center since 2008. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology from West Virginia University, a Master of Science degree in Audiology from West Virginia University, and a Ph.D. in Audiology from the University of South Carolina. She worked at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Roanoke for over 20 years. Michelle holds a state license from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and a Hearing Aid Dispensing License. She loves what she does and is happy to help people hear and promote healthy hearing habits.

Heather Dickey, Au.D.

CCC-A, Audiologist


Dr. Dickey was born and raised in New York State but has also lived in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, and Maine. Her clinical interests include auditory processing disorders, balance disorders, and helping people with hearing loss lead fuller lives. Heather has her Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders/Deaf Studies from Marywood University, her Master of Science Degree in Audiology from East Tennessee State University, and her Doctorate in Audiology from University of Florida. She holds a state license in Audiology from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association and a Hearing Aid Specialist License. She lives in Roanoke with her husband and two young sons. She enjoys swimming, being outdoors with her family and crafting.

Janet Miller, M.A.

CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist and Director of Speech-Language Pathology Services


Janet began working at the Center in 2010. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from James Madison University and a Master of Arts degree from Ohio University. Janet brings 32 years of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist to the Center. She has primarily worked with children in a variety of settings such as a preschool for kids with special needs, an evaluation center, a hospital outpatient program, and a hospital pediatric rehab program. She particularly enjoys working with children whose expressive language is slow to develop due to general language delay of autism. Every day a child teaches her something new. She holds a state license from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and a Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Melissa Patterson, M.S.

CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist


Melissa began working at the Center in 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Marshall University and a Master of Science in Speech Language Pathology from Radford University. Melissa brings over 10 years’ experience to the Center in a variety of settings, including school systems, infant-toddler programs, nursing care facilities, and private clients. Melissa has experience with articulation, phonology, language impairment, stuttering, autism, voice, dysphagia, apraxia, and aphasia. Melissa is a certified LSVT LOUD® clinician; a voice treatment for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. Melissa holds a state license from the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and a Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Ann Walsh, M.S.

CCC-SLP, Speech-Language Pathologist


Ann joined the Center in January 2015. She is from Pittsburgh, PA and attended Clarion University of Pennsylvania where she received her bachelor’s (2008) and master’s (2010) degrees in Speech-Language Pathology. After graduation, Ann moved to Danville, VA to complete her Clinical Fellowship working in a private practice with an emphasis on treating individuals with feeding and oral-sensory disorders. In 2012, Ann became a traveling Speech Pathologist, visiting nursing centers in Chincoteague, VA and she eventually traveled back to SW VA to Rocky Mount. After 4 years of experience and visiting many new places along the way, Ann decided to make Roanoke her permanent home and recently purchased a house. Ann is an active member in her local church, enjoys cookouts, traveling to see family, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, taking her dog Ollie for walks, and learning the ropes of being a first-time home buyer.

Molly Webster

Office Manager & Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant


Molly joined the Roanoke Valley Speech and Hearing Center in 2010. She is a graduate of Cave Spring High School and has her Bachelor of Science Degree from Radford University in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

Tanisha Durham

Front Desk Receptionist


Tanisha began working at the Center in the summer of 2011. She is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Ferrum University. While at Ferrum, she played basketball and received ‘All Time Leading Scorer’. She is responsible for the front desk reception area and facilitating a happy and pleasant experience.

Tresica Colvin

Insurance Specialist


Tresica joined the Center in November 2014. She has spent most of her life in Blue Ridge, VA and is currently enrolled at Liberty University completing her bachelor’s degree. Tresica has over five years of insurance experience working with both Anthem and Carilion. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and five kids. She especially enjoys attending her children’s sporting events, going hiking, and reading.

Charlie Carney

CAOHC Certified, Hearing Conservationist

Charlie joined the RVSHC staff in August 2016. He is our Hearing Conservationist and travels with the Center’s mobile unit to conduct industrial hearing testing for industries with loud noise environments. He is from Greenbrier, West Virginia. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Concord University along with MBA work through Averett. He and his wife, Angel, have two daughters, Cate and Sarah. He enjoys reading, fishing, whitewater canoeing, camping and hunting.

Marty Smolak

Audiology Assistant


Marty joined the Center in November 2016. Marty is our Audiology Assistant, assisting our Audiologists and patients at our Center. She is originally from West Virginia and relocated to Roanoke in 2012.She has two sons and one grandson. She enjoys music, gardening, hiking, and cooking!
